Honest Yen exists to help first-time and repeat visitors to Japan make decisions quickly, using official sources compared side by side. Accuracy comes before advertising; anything we cannot verify is left out.
Who we are
A small editorial team that has been organising Japan travel information. We have no employment relationship with any travel agency or reseller, and we do not rank products in exchange for payment.
How we work
- Official and primary sources first — government bodies, operators, tourism boards, statutes and official statistics. Personal blogs, content farms and wikis are not used as sources.
- Every figure is footnoted — prices, schedules and conditions carry a source number that links to the original document in the Sources list.
- Machine checks before publishing — every cited link is tested for existence, banned source types are rejected, fabricated first-person “experience” wording and relative dates (“today”, “this year”) are flagged. A draft that fails any check is held, not published.
- Automation disclosure — we use automated tools for research and drafting. Only drafts that pass the verification gate are published, and articles are corrected after publication when readers or our periodic reviews find errors.
- “As of” dates — information that changes (prices, rules) states the month it was checked, and is updated when changes are confirmed.
Corrections

Advertising and affiliate links
The site is funded by advertising and some affiliate links. Revenue does not influence which topics we cover or how we assess options; articles containing affiliate links say so at the top. See our affiliate disclosure and privacy policy.
